This is a product that can help you get the dust out from under your fridge without damaging the coils!

Save Energy by Checking Under the Refrigerator

If you have a newer refrigerator, check underneath.  You may find you have collected quite a lot of lint and dust that could be affecting the efficiency.  Older ones have the coils on the back of the fridge and are a less prone to having this issue.  Pet hair and dust are the big trouble makers for coils on the floor.  (Dropped food too, but let's not think too hard about that one...)

Your refrigerator uses the coils to take the heat from inside the fridge and dump it into the room.  If you place fur and or lint  in between the air and coils, the efficiency drops like a rock!

How to Clean Under the Fridge

You can clean under there with the small hose attachment from your vacuum cleaner, but be careful not to tug on or push on the coils.  It can be easier and safer to use a round brush like the one above to get the refrigerator coils cleaned.

Once every couple of months seems to be a standard for this practice, but that sounds like a lot to me.  If you are thinking..."um...I never do this"...might as well take a look and see if it's time to start.  There should be a little vent at the very bottom of your refrigerator.  If you can easily pop off the vent, you are home free.  If it gives you any significant resistance, time to read the instruction manual for the refrigerator.

You should unplug the refrigerator before doing anything kind of maintenance.
