Purpose: Use the Black & Decker TLD100 Thermal Leak Detector to search for hot or cold points within your home, including along the fireplace, recessed lighting, electrical outlets, floor molding, etc. This allows you to find potentially dangerous electrical shorts, which could lead to fire if left unattended to for too long, or identify insulation gaps that are sending your energy bill sky high.

Review: Just point and shoot this handy, little device. With an easy-to-read display, you can set the tolerance for 1, 5 or 10 degrees. Not only does it give you the temperature reading, but it also has a beam of light that indicates the temperature based on pre-set tolerances: green if within tolerance, blue if colder than the tolerance set, and red if it is hotter. I recommend this product for its ease of use alone.

The Pros and Cons of the “Black & Decker TLD100”

Plus Side: Easy to use and understand, the Black & Decker TLD100 has many uses within the home when it comes to looking for hot and cold spots. By helping you identify areas where your home is not energy efficient, the TLD100 can recoup its initial purchase price quickly.

Minus Side: The laser pointer only has a D:S of 6:1, which is indicative in its price point, as compared to more pricier devices that have a finer D:S of 50:1. But for its price, it does what it is intended for.

Black & Decker TLD100 Overall Review

Does what it says even if the range is a little short. The ease of use more than makes up for this.
