What is more efficient than an Energy Star product? An Energy Star Most Efficient product, that’s what! Introduced in early July by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), along with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), those products with the Energy Star Most Efficient rating will be those that have show exceptional efficiency among all other products in their category.

The new rating gives customers even better options for products that will have a bigger environmental punch, leading to significant energy savings over time. Initially introduced in five areas, the rating will only be given to the top 5% of models represented.

Energy Star Most Efficient Product Categories

The Energy Star Most Efficient categories are:

  • Clothes washers
  • Heating equipment
  • Cooling equipment
  • Televisions
  • Refrigerators/freezers

The aim of the new government initiative is not only to give consumers more energy-efficient options, but to encourage the companies that make these products to invest in future energy-saving appliances without government mandates.

Energy Savings in the Home

Products receiving the Most Efficient rating represent the best in cutting-edge efficiency in regards to the environment in the areas of electricity used. A trait valued by “environmentally minded consumers,” according to the DOE.

Some of the initial products that have received the new rating include Best Buy’s Insignia brand, Panasonic, Samsung, and Sears’ Kenmore, among others.
